What Is Thousand Trails RV Membership?
Thousand Trails is a platform that helps you find and book RV and campsites all over the country.
The Thousand Trails RV membership is an annual pass that gives you access to one or more regions of the platform’s massive database of U.S. campgrounds and RV sites without having to pay nightly campsite fees.
Thousand Trails Membership Options
The Thousand Trails membership has a few options, broken down by:
- Region (5 total)
- And number of campsites
The membership has one main payment plan, which is $49 per month(or $580 annual fee) and includes your choice of one of Thousand Trails’s 5 regions:
- Southwest
- Southeast
- Northwest
- Northeast
- Midwest
You can also subscribe to their Trails Collection add-on, which is a mix of over 100 family-friendly campsites throughout the country for a reduced price.
You can also choose to add a region to your plan for $110 annually.
Which Thousand Trails Membership Is Best for You?
The Thousand Trails membership is mostly based on region, making it pretty easy to decide which plan is best for you. Most of the regions include about 15-20 campsites.
Simply choose the region (or regions) based on where you’ll be traveling and you’re set.
You can see the full list of campsite locations on the Thousand Trails membership page here: Thousand Trails Camping Pass (example of their Northeast region pass below):
The only exception is their Trails Collection membership, which is designed for families traveling throughout the country.
It’s an especially good deal at $425 annually for an additional 100+ campsites throughout the country (compared to the base plan’s $580 annually for 15-20 campsites).
Do note, though, that about 10 of the 120~ in the Trails Collection aren’t free but instead a reduced $20 nightly fee. Not a major deal, but worth noting.
It’s also important to note that the Trails Collection is an add-on. You must have a basic Thousand Trails membership to subscribe to the Trails Collection plan.
Thousand Trails Membership Pricing
The Thousand Trails membership is $49 per month or $580 annually for one region.
Additional regions are $110 per region annually.
It’s important to note that their monthly payment option is only available with a signed 2-year agreement.
However, they do offer a full money-back guarantee to balance that out, so you can try it out without worry.
As mentioned in the previous section, for an additional charge you can get the Trails Collection as well which is $425 annually.
Does Thousand Trails Membership Actually Save You Money?
With campsite fees anywhere from $20-100 depending on the location, the Thousand Trails membership can save RVers quite a bit of money over a long trip (even more if you travel full-time).
Whether it will save you money or not depends mostly on whether you like the campsites in their network (i.e. would you actually stay at them) and how often you’re traveling.
Is the Thousand Trails RV Membership for You?
The key to figuring out if the Thousand Trails membership is worth it for you depends on a few things.
- How often do you travel and stay at campsites?
- How often do you travel in one or more of the aforementioned 5 regions?
- How much do those campsites charge you nightly?
If you travel often and would make frequent use of the campsites in the region most applicable to you, there’s a good chance that the membership could save hundreds of dollars per year.
However, before investing think about the questions above to decide for yourself if it would be worth it for you.
