4 Common RV Sheet Materials

There are a lot of enjoyable sheet fabrics that RV sheets can be made out of, but chances are you’ll like some more than others.

Some are cooler, some smoother and silkier, and some softer.

More than the feel, however, when choosing RV sheets you’ll want to consider a few things:

• Where you’re camping: Whether it’s predominantly hot or cold will change what sheets you should choose.
• Fabric qualities: Besides the general feel, there’s convenience features such as wick (non-moisture) and wrinkle-free.
• And bed shape: Some brands have solutions for every RV bed type, but some don’t.

With that in mind, here are 4 popular RV sheet materials to consider:

1. Cotton

The classic cotton is comfortable and affordable in a variety of climates. 

It kind of does it all, and is an easy default when you don’t have a strong preference or aren’t sure what to go with.

Cotton technically can include a variety of different fabrics such as flannel and sateen, so make sure to test a few cotton-made fabrics to see which you prefer. 

2. Egyptian cotton

The premium version of cotton, Egyptian cotton is generally softer and smoother than regular cotton fabrics. 

Beyond that, there isn’t much of a difference. 

If you’re interested in Egyptian cotton, make sure to verify that it’s authentic by looking for one of these phrases on the purchase page or packaging:

• long-staple Egyptian cotton
• long-staple Pima cotton

3. Polyester

Easily the second most common sheet material, polyester is often combined with cotton in a 50/50 blend.

Polyester is a synthetic fiber technically made using plastics. 

If that sounds weird, know that polyester is actually used in most bedding and clothing nowadays. You’re probably wearing something with polyester now (take that as you will). 

Polyester is generally considered a lower quality fabric to cotton as it wrinkles more easily and many consider it less comfortable. It can also irritate the skin for some.

The trade off is that it’s the most affordable fabric on this list, so it’s a solid budget choice. 

4. Microfiber

Microfiber is the final fabric on the list. It isn’t technically a material but a fabric, made up of a combination of synthetic materials including polyester, nylon, and others. 

It’s not as common as cotton or polyester, but you will see it used often for its wrinkle-resistant properties. 

Similar to polyester, microfiber being a synthetic fabric is also very affordable. 

Do RVs Need Special Sheets?

RV beds are shaped a bit differently than typical residential beds (most notably, they’re a bit rounder).

For that reason, bed sheets specifically made for RV beds are more comfortable and fit better than generic ones.

What Is the Difference Between Regular Bed Sheets and RV Sheets?

The main difference between regular bed sheets and RV sheets is the sizing.

Regular bed sheets tend to be a bit wider than RV sheets. For example, a standard queen-sized bed needs 60” x 80” sheets, queen-sized RV sheets are 60” x 75”.

With that said, there isn’t one size of RV bed. Just like standard beds, they can come in queen, king, and an assortment of other sizes. Each of these is slightly different in an RV than the standard bed size and matching sheets.
